Families First Programs
Review the FAQ below to see if you qualify.

Our goal is to strengthen families with meaningful, responsible support. To ensure we can serve as many households as possible, assistance is available once per service category within a 12-month period, based on funding availability.

For example:
• One utility assistance per 12 months
• One grocery gift card assistance per 12 months

All assistance is subject to eligibility requirements and available funding.

In addition to financial support, we may also connect families with helpful resources and encouragement designed to promote long-term stability.

We are honored to serve you with care, dignity, and accountability.

1

Marriage Support
Marital Counseling

Our Families First Programs also acknowledge that strong family relationships are foundational to a healthy home environment. To support couples facing challenges, we offer financial assistance for marriage counseling. This service provides families with access to professional guidance and support, helping them navigate conflicts and strengthen their relationships. By investing in the emotional well-being of families, we aim to foster resilience and improve overall family dynamics, ultimately leading to healthier and more stable homes.

2

Marriage Support
Pre-Marital Counseling

The Families First Programs also recognize that healthy marriages are built with intention long before challenges arise. To help couples lay a strong foundation, we offer financial assistance for premarital counseling. This service gives engaged couples access to professional guidance that equips them with practical tools for communication, conflict resolution, and shared goal-setting. By investing early in the emotional and relational health of couples, we aim to promote unity, resilience, and stability, setting the stage for strong marriages and thriving families from the very beginning.

3

Grocery Assistance

Food insecurity is a pervasive issue that affects many families, often forcing them to make difficult choices to put food on the table at the expense of other essentials. The Families First Programs address this challenge by providing grocery-only cards to purchase groceries without the burden of financial strain. These grocery cards ensure that their children have access to the nourishment they need for growth and development. By alleviating food insecurity, we aim to improve the overall health and well-being of families in our community.

4

Utility Assistance

One of the most immediate concerns for families in crisis is the ability to maintain essential utilities such as electricity, water, and heating. The Families First Programs offer utility assistance up to $300 to struggling families. By providing financial support for utility bills, we help alleviate the stress of impending disconnections. This assistance not only helps families maintain their basic needs but also fosters a sense of security and stability that is crucial for their overall mental health.

5

Care Crates

The Families First Programs recognize the importance of providing essential household supplies that families often lack. Our Care Crates are filled with everyday necessities such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, and hygiene products. These crates are designed to meet the immediate needs of families, allowing them to focus on rebuilding their lives without the added stress of sourcing basic household items. By providing these essential supplies, we aim to enhance the quality of life for families and promote a sense of dignity and self-sufficiency.

Currently, utility assistance, care crates, and grocery gift cards are available to eligible Montgomery County and  North Harris County (Spring, Tomball, & Cypress) residents. KFM uses the federal poverty guidelines to help determine eligibility for assistance. Our emergency assistance programs are designed to support families, married couples and households with children. Because of this focus, we are not able to assist single individuals without children at this time.

The Marriage Support Program is available to Montgomery and all North Harris County residents.  Income is not a determining factor for approval for the Marriage Support Program.
